The Rev. Dr. Jeffrey Pulse

Pastor Pulse holds a BS in elementary education from Concordia Teachers College in Seward, Nebraska; an MDiv and STM from Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne; and a PhD in Old Testament theology from the University of Durham, England.


Pastor Pulse is in his second term as vacancy pastor of Shepherd of the City, formerly serving from 2008 to 2023. He previously served twenty-two years full-time in the parish at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Burt, Iowa, and Peace Lutheran Church in Bremerton, Washington. 


In addition to his ministry with Shepherd of the City, Dr. Pulse is professor of exegetical theology, the director of certification and placement, and the director of continuing education at Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne. He has served at the seminary since 2007.

Fieldworker Adam Lichtenegger

Vicar Sorkness grew up in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. He holds the degrees of bachelor of arts in theology from Concordia University, St. Paul; master of divinity and master of arts in Christian education and formation from Princeton Theological Seminary; and master of arts in religion (concentration in philosophy of religion and philosophical theology) from Yale University. He is currently in both the Alternate Route to ordination and the PhD in theological studies programs of Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne.


Vicar Sorkness began his vicarage in August 2025.


As of this 2025–2026 vicarage year, Shepherd of the City's vicar is now fully shared with St. Paul's Lutheran School.

Fieldworker Adam Lichtenegger

Fieldworker Adam Lichtenegger

Seminarian Lichtenegger was born and raised in Missouri. Before attending Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, he earned a bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Southeast Missouri State University and a master's degree in health and physical education from Northwest Missouri State University. He was a middle-school teacher at Immanuel Lutheran School in Perryville, Missouri, for three years before moving to Fort Wayne for seminary. He is currently in his first year of seminary education.


Seminarian Lichtenegger was installed as fieldworker in the fall of 2025.
